LET'S NOT FORGET ABOUT THE DISABLED! PAL-UA SAVES PEOPLE WITH HEARING IMPAIRMENTS

Updated: Apr 2, 2023

Hearing impaired people do not hear explosions, they do not know how close the danger is, therefore the risk of dying in shelling is higher than for others. So their rescue is a priority for PAL-UA.

The sounds of explosions have become a commonplace for Ukrainians this year. This is a tragedy of our long-suffering people. Every loud sound scares us, and these fears, unfortunately, will haunt us for years. But hearing also saves us. We run to hide in a basement or a bomb shelter when we hear explosions nearby.

Imagine for a second what it is like for those who are deaf. They can only see the fiery flames of explosions, columns of black smoke; they can feel the ground shaking, the walls swaying. Unfortunately it may be too late to run and save themselves, especially when their legs do not work. Disabled people are a high-risk group that can be easily forgotten in the midst of war. Let's not forget about them!

Nina Klochek and Viktor Klochek are hearing-impaired pensioners from Kherson. Viktor also has mobility issues after suffering a stroke 10 years ago.

Their daughters asked us to evacuate the couple. The PAL-UA team carried out this complex multi-stage evacuation on their own ambulances from Kherson to Germany with the organizational and financial support of our partners, the Rubikus charitable organization, for which we are very grateful.
