THE STREETS OF A FRONTLINE CITY ARE DANGEROUS

December 2022 forced the PAL-UA team to work to exhaustion. The number of evacuation requests was increasing daily. They worked no matter what, helping those who had almost lost hope is the main goal of PAL-UA.

Yulia has lived in her native Kherson for 78 years and if it were not for the war, she would have agreed to leave her home at her age. Mykhailo, her husband, celebrated his 81st birthday in frontline Kherson. The city was his true homeland. The couple never planned to leave their home, but the war decided otherwise.

Yulia's illness does not let her sit for long periods of time. The woman can walk no more than ten meters on her own, leaning on a cane, and the autoimmune disease exhausts the body in a matter of minutes. Mykhailo at 81 despite his desire is unable to help because he is not strong enough.

The PAL-UA vehicle stopped at the second entrance of the nine-story building. Suitcases were stacked on a bench near the house. A young man came out of the entrance with a small package and immediately went to the car. The driver got out of the car and greeted the boy. Vladyslav turned out to be the grandson of Yulia and Mykhailo.

A few minutes later, an elderly woman came out of the house. Leaning on a cane, she walked toward the evacuation vehicle. The woman's face showed unbearable fatigue, but her eyes were full of hope and gratitude. She wanted to get to the rescue vehicle as soon as possible, and if not lie down, at least sit down.

It didn't take long to get in. The skill with which the driver carried out the evacuation finally calmed Yulia down. The woman realized that there was nothing to be afraid of now, she was under the reliable protection of specialists, and the journey ahead no longer seemed as dangerous as before.

The continuous work of the PAL-UA team during the war saved and gave hope to many people. The guys and girls carry out evacuations without days off and rest, sparing neither themselves nor their equipment. And while the rescuers' bodies are stronger than steel and recover quickly, despite the difficulties, the equipment cannot withstand the continuous load.

Your donation will help restore the evacuation vehicles and save many more lives.
